While many restoration companies may have pronounced this '57 Chevy bumper end "beyond hope", A.I.H. considers it a routine restoration.
After the bumper is chemically stripped of nickel and chrome, it is sandblasted to determine what repairs are necessary. Rusted-out areas are completely cut out of the bumper. [View image]
Using heavy-guage metal, skilled technicians fabribcate new pieces to replace damaged areas. They are the wire-welded, front and back.
After the welds are ground, the bumper is carefully inspected for surface irregularities. Dents and imperfections are painstakingly hammered out by experienced straightening specialists. [View image]
Once straightening is complete, the bumper is sent to the polishing department. Using hand sanders to avoid warping or overheating, the bumper is polished in preparation for the plating process. [View image]
Following electro-cleaning and hand-washing, all parts are plated with bright copper. They are then returned to the polishing department, where they are buffed to a high luster, removing any imperfections. This step may be repeated several times if necessary. Parts are then plated with semi-bright nickel, bright nickel, and chrome. The finished part is guaranteed by A.I.H. for life. [View image]
